Micro-Credential
The micro-credential in Pelvic Health Physical Therapy recognizes learners who complete advanced training and acquire a greater depth of understanding to better examine, treat and assess the patient population with pelvic health conditions.
Within this Level III Badge, learners will differentially diagnosis pelvic floor impairments from lumbar spine and hip pathologies. You will be able to identify psychosocial and sociodemographic factors that impact care of pelvic health patients, create an appropriate plan of care for a patient seeking pelvic health services using evidence informed practice, and analyze the role of the physical therapist in promoting successful pelvic health evaluation and treatment.
You should pursue this micro-credential if:
You are a graduate student within Quininpiac's Doctor of Physical Therapy program
You are interested in improving outcomes for clients with pelvic health conditions
This program takes place over the course of a few months during the final year of your graduate Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
All learners who complete the criteria will earn a Level III Badge.
Complete PT 744: Therapy Skills Elective in Pelvic Health (2 Credits).
Complete 2-6 hours of continuing education specific to this content area.
Complete 2-3 hours of experiential learning in a clinical or community setting (in addition to any required experiential learning necessary to complete the elective course).
Completion of the micro-credential requires learners to earn a grade of "Pass" in the PT 744 elective, demonstrate evidence of understanding of the continuing education program through completion of a case-based post-test and complete an assessment of the experiential learning.
Define the role of the pelvic health physical therapist across the continuum of care
Incorporate an understanding of the factors that will impact individual patient performance, the physical therapy plan of care and prognosis
Apply current evidence and best practices in physical therapy examination, evaluation and treatment
Select and administer appropriate tests and measures.
Evaluate findings to create an individualized physical therapy plan of care
Select and administer physical therapy interventions to address patient and caregiver goals
Integrate, adapt and/or modify professional behaviors and skills in response to patient/caregiver needs and preferences
Maintain safety when providing physical therapy services
These badges are awarded to learners who have demonstrated mastery of tactical skills and knowledge that can be applied in professional working environments. Learners must showcase their ability to apply a collection of competencies or industry standards in true-to-life environments.
By earning a micro-credential, learners across a wide array of industries, verticals and professional fields are able to showcase the acquisition of specialized knowledge that offers unique value in the workplace. Micro-credentials are flexible and versatile, designed and delivered in an accelerated format by our experienced faculty and industry thought leaders who understand critical shortages and skills gaps.
All students who complete a micro-credential associated with academic credit or co-curricular experiences will receive a designation on their transcript and a digital badge through Credly. Micro-credential earners are encouraged to share their achievements on resumes, social media platforms and e-portfolios.
Learners can begin their pursuit of micro-credentials at any level; individuals who are new to the field are best suited for Participation or Level I badges, whereas experienced professionals might be more interested in advanced Level III Badges or Level IV Certifications.
